Awang
Damit Ahmad graduated from Universiti Institut Teknologi Mara in 1979. In 1983
he was awarded an excellent prize for his artworks. Later he furthered his studies at the Wahington Catholic University of America.
Awang Damit is a strong activist in the Malaysian art
circle and a diligent abstract painter.
He was born and bred in Sabah. His paintings reflect
his childhood memories in his village and the colourful background of his
birthplace. His works show the experience of individuals and the cultures of communal
groups.
In his works, he mixes colours with materials such as
sand in order to give his paintings a thick and heavy appearance, adding visual
and tactile effects for viewers, who sometimes find themselves unable to resist
touching them.
In his works we can see his use of strong colours and
bold brush strokes. In general, his works depict his personal feelings about
his background, cultural roots and community.

阿旺达密阿末是马来西亚艺坛的中坚分子，他是一位孜孜不倦的抽象表现主义画家。

他土生土长于沙巴，童年在部落里的记忆，独特的部落人文符号，强烈的地方色彩，常有意无意从他的画面流露出来。他的创作，既是个人人生的历程，也是对族群文化的礼赞。
值得一提的是，他在创作时，将颜料加入沙状物质，这些质感，更增加了画面形式的厚重与触感，也增添了视觉的纯粹性。看他作品的观赏者，常常会深深被吸引，禁不住想去触摸画面的的肌理。
他的系列创作中，不论采用沉着或强烈的色彩，丰富的纹理和大胆的笔触，是他独特的个人风格。他的作品，是叙述个人对故乡的一份情感，也强烈传达了对文化的根与社群的成长的一个期许与见证。
