Distinction

Chew Fang Chin was born in 1947. Graduating from the Taiwan's National Chengchi University in 1972, he is now a professional artist.

His ideals of art can be summed up thus, “Art is a reflection of life. It is continuously filling the space of life. Life should nurture and promote art.”

The subjects of Chew’s paintings revolve around everyday life and his surroundings. He especially likes the customs and traditions of various tribes of Sarawak. He paints the life of the minority communities to express his fondness of the local cultures of the people.

His sensitive eyes, delicate feelings and rich imagination manage to create a series of scenes about life in local communities. He uses well-trained but simple techniques and colours to capture the mood of the people and the atmosphere of their surroundings. His portrayal of people and places is unique in South-east Asia.

Chew’s artworks constitute a special edition of Malaysia’s multi-racial and multi-cultural dimension, emanating a strong feeling of love for our land and the natural environment.

画家周方正，出生於1947年，1972年毕业于台湾国立政治大学。现为专业画家。

“艺术是生活题材之反映，是在不断地充实生活中，提升对艺术创作的发挥。”这是周方正画家的艺术创作观念。

周方正的绘画题材，源自于生活周遭环境的景与物，他特别喜爱以砂拉越土著各族群的风土民情、生活情景作为创作主题。尤其是以内陆少数民族的造形与色彩，作为他的艺术创作的视觉语言，传达画家对本土文化的热爱与推崇。

周方正画家以敏锐的眼光，细腻的心思，丰富的想象，创意的构思，融合了生活情感，创造了一系列本地风土民情和生活习惯的典雅人文佳作。他的创作，喜欢采用非常简练的造形和色彩鲜明的手法，去刻画人物的神情和表现景色的氛围。周方正笔下的人物造形和地方色彩，创造了具有南洋画风的作品，已成功为他树立了独一无二的绘画风格。

周方正的艺术，是以东方艺术之特性来诠释我国多元种族文化特色和风土民情。作品展现自己的国土，传达出一股浓浓的热爱故乡、维护自然的情怀。
