Yong Kong graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art in 1976. In 2003, the
Inter-American University conferred upon him a Doctorate degree of Art
Philosophy. Presently he is the president of the Malaysian Contemporary Chinese
Painting & Calligraphy Association.
Foo’s
artworks exhibit strong life force, freedom and a trendy spirit. Looking at them,
one is intrigued and excited. His cursive “Calligraphy and Painting” may look
modern but is intrinsically traditional. He stresses on the saturation of
colours or ink and the force, sureness and deftness within the brush strokes.
His works also show a mixture of western and eastern art and cultures.
He
says, “In my works, I draw lines and write with Chinese brushes before blending
in western colour techniques. The only way to be a successful contemporary artist
is to use modern techniques to create artworks with contemporary
characteristics and trendy spirit.”
Foo’s
artworks reflect his idealism. His works contain both traditional calligraphy
and contemporary abstracts. His brush strokes are bold and thick, displaying strong
life force and his colours are fresh and lively, exhibiting the free spirits.
Above
all, his artworks are the combination of human character, idealism and nature, exuding
his inner feelings.
Inter America
