Yap Hong Ngee studied art at the Tokyo University of Arts for two years and later graduated with an arts degree from the Waseda University. Presently he acts as Visiting Professor to the Academy of Fine Arts, Harbin Normal University of China and the Academy of Fine Arts, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics of China.

Yap’s paintings possess strong personal characteristics, whether in Chinese ink paintings, Japanese colour drawings or oils. He happily contends that his artworks reflect the Malaysian environment. In his oils, there seem to be Chinese brush strokes, exhibiting “western techniques in Chinese art” in contemporary ink paintings.

Yap’s artworks are based on nature, as he adores the environment. Often he paints landscapes and things close to him, giving them poetic sentiments and unique characteristics.

He says, “I paint based on my ability, techniques and understanding of things. I create works with a sincere heart and an artist’s passion. I maintain a happy attitude and try to paint things exhibiting health and happiness.” The simplicity of his paintings shows limitless life force and feelings.

画家叶逢仪，早年于日本东京艺术大学研究生2年，后毕业于早稻田大学文学士。现为中国哈尔滨大学美术学院兼中国云南财经大学美术学院客座教授。

叶逢仪的绘画艺术，不论水墨画、日本彩绘画或油画，都强调个人风格。他个人欣慰自己已得出一种适应马来西亚的环境的画种，在油画布上画有水墨氛围的“洋为中用”的“现代水墨画”。

叶逢仪的绘画，师法自然，崇敬自然，善待自然。他常常画一些自己熟悉的景物和身边的点点滴滴，题材平易近人。他的作品富有诗情，别具特色，有着一种意味深长的魅力，从画面潜入了观赏者的心头。

他说，“依自己的能力、技巧及理解作画，避开自己之短，凸显自己所长。以一颗单纯的心和艺术家的怜悯之心去创作，常保持快乐的心态，尝试画出健康和快乐。” 或许，他的赤子之心，体现了无穷的生命力与无尽的情调。

叶逢仪尊重先辈的成就，但绝不落入旧框。他强调塑造自己，坚持画出自己的风格是艺术创作之道。
