Goh
Ah Ang established the Top-Art School of Art in 1979. Presently he is the
President of Klang Association of
Artists as well as the Chief Consultant of Federation of International
Tsai-Mo Artists.
Goh’s ideals of art is that “As long as one has the
interest, he can find artistic inspiration from everyday life and cultures.”
He views “Ants” and “Words” as symbols in life as well
as the language of his artworks. Ants
are the symbols of struggles in artists’ lives and words are the crystallisations
of civilization and wisdom in paintings.
Goh’s recent works exhibit the use of ink printing and
calligraphy to achieve special effects.
He also applies the technique of “using black to design white spaces” to
enhance his creations. His works display
thick ink spreads, producing a forceful tonal effect created by placing black
strokes against white spaces, ink spots against little ants and words blending into
inky backgrounds. The forms show a blending of the eastern and western
techniques, resulting in a fresh traditional approach.
Overall, Goh’s recent works exhibit a unique freshness
which is forward-looking and thought-provoking.
